Donata Francescato, Ph.D.


Donata Francescato received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston, Texas, in 1972. She was awarded in 1972 a Postdoctoral Fellowship for the study of learning processes in small groups at the Cosciology Department of Brandeis University. She is presently Professor of Community Psychology at the Universtiy of "La Sapienza" in Rome. Since 1982 she has been Scientific Director of the ECOPOIESIS NETWORK which promotes the development of community psychology through research, consultation and training. Ecopoiesis has developed a two year Masters program in community psychology to promote individual, group and organizational empowerment. Donata Francescato is Scientific Director of ASPIC, a specialization school which trains psychologists and medical doctors to be psychotherapists and community psychologists.

She was the first Coordinator of the European Netork of Community Psychologists and is a founding member of the European Network of Affective Education.

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Journal of Community and Applied Social Psychology. Donata Francescato published the first book in community psychology in Italy in 1977. She is the author of 20 books on women and politics, online collaborative learning, some of which translated into Spanish, Portuguese, French and Japanese. Among her books, several have been adopted as textbooks in community psychology in other Italian Universities.
